Visit Halmstad Castle

Are you interested in history or do you just enjoy visiting historic buildings? You should make the trip to Halmstad Castle. The castle was built in the early 1600s while Halmstad was still part of Denmark. It was built to give King Kristian IV somewhere to live when he visited the city and it has since been used to house a number of royals. The castle also features beautiful murals and a stunning palace garden. Today, parts of the castle are in use as a residence and offices, while other parts remain open to visitors and it is definitely worth making the trip.

Get on your bike

Halmstad has several beautiful cycle paths that are worth exploring. We recommend renting a bike and taking a trip on Kattegattleden if you want to experience an easy path in beautiful surroundings. The cycle path is 390 km long and you can cycle as far as you want and take one of the trains running along the path back to town. Cycling is a great way to enjoy the sun and the views, while feeling the wind in your hair as you take a little light exercise. If you prefer to stay close to the centre, you might find Laxaleden to be a better choice. The path runs through the eastern part of the city and you will cycle past several interesting sights such as Picasso Park and the National Library.
